Have you heard about "full range of motion" or even ROM ? If you have, but don't know what it means, then here you go:
ROM (range of motion) is how far the weight can be moved in each direction to complete a full contraction or expansion, or in the fitness lingo, the eccentric part or concentric part of the movement, with proper form.
You should perform exercises through the full range of motion if you want to get the most benefits of weight training.
Full range of motion equals the most work for the muscle group for each rep and set. When working through the full range of motion, you use as many muscle fibres as possible, hence strengthen the muscle as much as possible which is what you want to achieve.
If you perform exercises through partial ranges of motion you are likely going to develop a weakness in part of the full range of motion.
Not working through full range of motion can possibly lead to muscle imbalance and increase the chance of injury.
