Low Fat, Lite, Light, Enriched Stuff is Full of Crap

I grew up in a house where we used to eat margarine because it was healthier.
Milk, was skimmed milk.
And when I was self sufficient and started buying my own food, I definitely went for the low fat, light, or lite options.
After all, they must be healthier, less calories, and better for the cholesterol and your heart.
At least, that’s somehow what the government has made us believe, as well as the food manufacturers.
Now if the products were just really low fat, they potentially could be healthier.
However, we most probably would never buy them, as they wouldn’t be the same colour, the same texture, nor approximately the same taste as the original version.
To achieve that, manufacturers have to add plenty of chemicals and sugar or sweetener to make it look and taste similar.
And all the enriched stuff, well, if you know what you need every day of it, you’ll see that it’s only good marketing, as it’s nowhere enough for what one needs to be healthy!
So I always now buy the original version. If something isn’t that healthy, and I want some, I just have the real stuff, and eat less of it.
I’m a big believer that our body is able to cope with natural things, even if they are high in calories, or fat, etc.
It’s when our body is trying to cope with all the chemicals and additives that are added to products, that it starts to struggle and diseases are created.

"I've been going to the gym for years (before meeting you) and was always too intimidated to go to the classes. I prefered to work out upstairs mostly on the running machine or bike. I was worried that I wouldn't know what to do, I'd be completely out of time, hurt myself etc. But what

Be Ready to Become a Different Person

It was never something I had thought about, and I don’t mean that I totally became a different person.

However, there are so many things I do differently that if I look back at the person I am now, and the person I was then, I’m very different.

Losing Weight Is a Scary Journey

Well, this is actually divided in 2 periods.
The period while you are losing the weight, and what happens after that.

If I have to be honest, I don’t think I ever thought about what’s happening after I will have lost the weight.

Losing masses of weight every week is not normal and doesn’t lead to long term results

I used to be fascinated by programmes such as The Biggest Loser and A Year to Save my Life.
I still watch them once in a while.

Most of the people on the programme lose 4-10lbs and sometimes even more on a weekly basis!

Rewarding myself with sweets for doing well negates the whole purpose.

Time after time, I used to have a good week. I ate well, I went to the gym, and boom, I thought I deserved a bag of sweets, after all, I did so well that week.

Achieving the so called “perfect body” requires hard work

We’re all influenced by the media, and what we perceive as the “perfect body”.
Slim legs, toned arms, a nice small bum, and a flat tummy (I won’t even go as far as a six pack).

It’s something, we as women somehow all aspire to, and are made to belief that it’s the ideal.

Life will always happen

I’ve always been very harsh on myself.

At school, was a good pupil, and if I struggled with something, I used to study a lot to get it right, and have good grades.

Same at uni.

And later on workwise, I always wanted to be successful. Be the best. Overachieve on targets, and working in sales, it was a great environment for me.
I rarely missed a target.

You can have a social life when on a “diet”

Whenever I tried to lose weight and went on a diet, I tried to make sure I didn’t have to go out socially.

As going out socially for me always meant having a dessert, potentially some alcohol, and generally a 3 course meal, with chips (always chips).

Cutting out everything you like or crave is not enough

We all know that cutting out the sugar, and the processed foods is going to help us lose weight.

The thing is, that when I used to cut out the sweets, I couldn’t stop thinking about them, and I craved them more and more and more.

Which lead me to break my “diet” after a while, because I just couldn’t resist anymore.

Weekly weigh ins are one of the causes of failure

As most people trying to lose weight, I used to weigh myself every week.

Sometimes, even more often. Especially after a bad day, hoping the scales wouldn’t be to affected by it.

Some weeks, where things didn’t go to plan, I wasn’t that disappointed if the results didn’t show. And sometimes I was just so happy I “got away with it”.
