How many times have you been to the supermarket with good intentions, and then walked out with chocolates, biscuits, sweets, and other stuff you weren't intending to buy ?

Well, you're not alone. Many people struggle when they go food shopping.

Not sure what is placed first when you walk into your supermarket, but in mine, it all depends if you come from the main entrance, or the parking lot behind it.

If it's from the parking lot behind it, you'll get straight into the fruit and vegetables, then walking through the diary products, meat, freezer stuff and then drinks.

However, if you want to buy some household products, such as dishwasher products, you'll have to pass the sweets, biscuits and crisps aisle.

And if you come from the main entrance, you start with flowers, special offers on chocolates, biscuits, crisps and soft drinks !

No matter how hard you try, you can easily be persuaded to buy something you don't really need.

3 for the price of 2, buy 1 get 1 free, only £1, and many more special offers are crawling all around the supermarket.

And let's say you do buy something for the special evening you have on next week. Do you really need all 3 or 2 ? Or could you have done with just the 1, but got tempted ?

What are you going to do with the extra item ? Well, most probably you will be eating it. Unless you can freeze it for another time.

And even worse, once you get used to find specific healthy items in one place. After a few weeks, they will have moved, and you find yourself faced in front of unhealthy items and get tempted again !

It takes a lot of strength and determination to survive the food shopping experience without sabotaging your weight loss journey.

A few tips:

1. Plan your meals in advance, so that you know what ingredients to put on your shopping list.

2. Always prepare a shopping list, and ONLY buy what's on the list.

3. Never go shopping when being hungry. It will be much harder to resist the temptation of buying unhealthy food.

4. Don't walk into aisles where you don't need to buy anything. So if you don't need your oats, don't get into the chocolats/sweets/biscuits/cereals aisle.

And if you find that certain items are shouting at you to buy them, just tell them to shut up !
